Machining

Old-school values meet cutting-edge technology
At MONMET, precision is literally our middle name, and there’s no finer expression of that principle than in our range of machined components. Working with a global network of partners, we call on almost 200 years of experience in machining for the mining, cement and power generation industries, utilizing the capacity and accuracy of over 130 machine tools. Every piece is available rough- or finish-machined to our customers’ most exacting specifications, using the latest in machining equipment technology.

Whether it’s milling, drilling, tapping or boring, our partner, Ferry Capitain provides components measuring from 1/8th of an inch up to heavy assemblies 45 feet (14 m) in diameter and weighing 280 metric tons. Pinions and gears are machined and cut up to 45 feet (14 m) in diameter. Our gears are cut to AGMA quality level 10 and pinions to AGMA quality level 12.

Ferry Capitain’s state-of-the-art CNC machining equipment includes:

- vertical borers (up to 18 metres diameter)
- centre lathes (up to 1.5m in diameter and 10m in length)
- horizontal boring machines
- milling machines (up to 16m in length)
- drilling machines
- gear tooth cutters
- tooth grinding machines

They won’t ship a component until it has been submitted to a complete range of inspections. Attention to detail means prioritizing your clock and your costs: all components are delivered on time and on budget. At MONMET, the only competition is our own reputation for excellence.

FACT: One of the men credited with creating the first real milling machine is Eli Whitney, inventor of the cotton gin.
